Breaking bread

Irondequoit hosts event celebrating New Orleans culture and Black History Month Irondequoit, N.Y. — The Levine Center to End Hate is partnering with Monroe County to host a Breaking Bread event this Sunday at the Irondequoit Public Library. In honor of Black History Month and New Orleans culture, this event aims to foster cultural understanding and unity by bringing people together to create Po’boys, a beloved staple of New Orleans cuisine. Breaking Bread is an ongoing community initiative designed to connect people through food, storytelling, and dialogue. Each event highlights a different cultural tradition, promoting understanding and meaningful conversations through the preparation of a staple dish. Sunday’s event marks the fourth in the Breaking Bread series, which has previously explored Jewish, Asian American/Pacific Islander, and Latin American cultures through their traditional foods. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the rich culinary and cultural heritage of New Orleans by making Po’boys while engaging in discussions about history, identity, and storytelling through poetry.
